At Pimm we believe in fostering talent and always seek the next creative minds. Our internships are designed not only to provide valuable experience to aspiring creatives, but also to learn from their fresh perspectives and ideas.
We want to collect the takeaways from our time together, so here we aim to highlight the experiences and insights gained by our interns during their time with us. Through these conversations, we hope to inspire others on their own journey in communication and design.👇
1. Before joining Pimm, what were your expectations regarding this internship?
My primary expectation on my internship was the opportunity to see how it is to work at an agency. I've been interested in the design/comms industry so I wanted to see how the day to day is working at an agency. And I believe I've really seen how it can be, above all that everyday is different from the next. And being able to see how a project can run along and how processes can look like.
2. What has been the key learnings or skills you've acquired? How do you think these learnings will benefit you in your future career?
I think mostly adaptability and flexibility, that customers constantly change their mind and that you have to challenge them sometimes and sometimes let go of your own ideas. Also the value of feedback and how it can really enhance your work. To grab feedback when you can!
I've learned about prioritizing and time management. How you should prioritize tasks, and to let go of something when something else comes along. The importance of setting your goals right to make sure you've got time to make everything on time.
3. What aspects of your experience with us do you believe will have the most lasting impact on you personally and professionally?
What I want to do professionally and what sort of workplace I want. I know now after being at Pimm that I want to work at a smaller company, because you can get instant feedback and constantly help each other. You learn and grow more by that and no day is the same. You get insight in every part of the process when the team is involved in all the projects.
4. If you were to offer advice to others considering applying for internships in the communication and design field, what would it be?
If you have a creative interest and a lot of ideas, this industry is great because it's really creative. It can be hard coming from the economics side with a wide education to go into creative businesses. But it's great to try this if you don't really know what you want to do. For a job in economics you kind of know what it contains, but to try this was something I was really curious about. If you come from the economics side, taking courses within a practical skill or something entirely else is also helpful to prepare yourself for the internship. I took graphics design courses before my internship to learn about design processes. Be clear about what you want to get out of your internship!
