Intern interviews: Pontus

At Pimm we believe in fostering talent and always seek the next creative minds. Our internships are designed not only to provide valuable experience to aspiring creatives, but also to learn from their fresh perspectives and ideas.

We want to collect the takeaways from our time together, so here we aim to highlight the experiences and insights gained by our interns during their time with us. Through these conversations, we hope to inspire others on their own journey in communication and design.👇

1. Before joining Pimm, what were your expectations regarding this internship?

I don’t think when I started my internship I had any particular expectations of Pimm. I knew what I was supposed to be working on (actual client cases etc). But my expectations were more on myself to perform and make good content and be as productive as I could. I had to rearrange the expectations on myself a bit as I realized there is know way of knowing everything when you are an intern. You are there to learn, so I think I had to let go a bit of that and just “go with the flow”.

2. What has been the key learnings or skills you've acquired? How do you think these learnings will benefit you in your future career?

My key learning experience from this internship is that when you make a creation, whatever it is, you need to have a reason behind it and a plan for it. Why do I make this logo? And does my creation reflect the brand I’m working with? There are millions of questions you can ask yourself before you start and when you have a structure and a plan for your creation you don’t waste precious time on your process if the customer doesn’t like it, or you need to change anything along the way. So I guess it will be processes that are my key learning - and always basing your work on a why.

And also, I learned that as an agency or freelancer, it is just as important to work with your own brand as well as your clients, to actually show what you can offer them.

3. What aspects of your experience with us do you believe will have the most lasting impact on you personally and professionally?

The most lasting experience Pimm has given me that I can take with me on my professional journey is working processes, new knowledge within the tools and programs of the field of graphic design and video editing, and also insights in how to work with clients. Personally, it is that I can do more than I believe, and always dare to try because it never hurts to do so.

4. If you were to offer advice to others considering applying for internships in the communication and design field, what would it be?

My biggest advice for people searching for an internship is to start searching for an internship on time. If you haven’t got an answer from a company, send an email and remind them, most of the time they probably just forgot about the email.

A great + when you search for an internship in design or content creation is to have a portfolio to showcase your creations and your strengths and weaknesses. Businesses want to see what you can make and if it matches the style of the company.

And last but not least, you are an intern. You don’t have to know everything, don’t put pressure on yourself for not knowing or think that you know everything. Most of the time the reality is different from your own perception and knowledge. But don’t underestimate your own abilities! Be open to where it can take you.
